Parodont tvoří tkáně, které ukotvují zuby v čelistní kosti. Zahrnuje kost držící zuby, které jsou zavěšeny pomocí vláknitého systému, a dáseň (gingiva), která tyto struktury z vnějšku pokrývá.
Parodontální problémy zahrnují zánět v oblasti závěsného aparátu zubů, což vede k destrukci tkání, uvolnění zubů a nakonec i k jejich ztrátě. V počátečních stádiích nemusí docházet k ústupu dásní, což může být zavádějící, protože kostní podpora může být již oslabena. Parodontální problémy tedy nejsou totéž jako prosté „ustupování dásní“.
Na začátku bývají parodontální problémy často bez příznaků, což oddaluje diagnózu. Ústup dásní se většinou objevuje až v pokročilých fázích. Mezi hlavní příznaky patří:
V pokročilých stádiích: ústup dásní, viklání zubů a jejich posun.
Protože subjektivní příznaky se objevují až ve středně pokročilém stádiu, jsou pravidelné kontroly u parodontologa zásadní pro včasné odhalení. Při běžném vyšetření se používá parodontální sonda ke kontrole volnosti, krvácivosti nebo přítomnosti hlubokých kapes (naznačujících úbytek kosti). Tyto kapsy mohou zadržovat plak, zubní kámen a bakterie. Rentgenové snímky umožňují detekci i menšího úbytku kosti.

Ne. Výzkumy prokázaly silné spojení mezi parodontálním onemocněním a celkovým zdravím. Jakožto zánětlivé onemocnění může parodontitida zhoršovat jiné zánětlivé stavy, například průběh cukrovky. Bakterie a toxiny spojené s parodontitidou byly zjištěny také u kardiovaskulárních onemocnění a komplikací, jako jsou předčasné porody nebo problémy s plodností.

Keve Horváth joined our team of dental technicians. He works in the Ceramic Department as a master ceramist. After he graduated in 1994, he furthered his knowledge from several symposiums in Hungary, Germany and Belgium (for example Noritake and Ivoclar). In 2006 he held a course „Esthetic Front” with a real patient presence, which is a special event in Hungary and also in Europe.
